Recess is a Brooklyn, New York-based startup founded by professional actors with a simple but powerful mission: inject play into the workday and rebuild human connection in an increasingly disconnected world. They came to me at a moment when that mission felt urgent and the business was still finding its shape, with a logo in hand and a big idea that needed a visual language, a voice, and a home on the internet. I became their one-person creative department, and we built it together from the ground up.
Starting with their existing logo, I developed a full brand ecosystem that gave Recess the visual clarity and consistency to show up confidently in front of clients like Google and the New York Times. I designed and built their website from scratch, branded their suite of Play Programs, and created the print collateral, slide decks, social media assets, and eblasts they needed to pitch, promote, and grow. I also worked closely with the founders on copywriting and brand voice, helping shape the language that communicated their mission with the wit, warmth, and conviction it deserved.
As firm believers in the value of collaboration, Recess asked me to show up as my full creative self, not just someone to execute their direction. We brainstormed together, tested ideas together, and built something that felt cohesive and alive. I also kept their content presence active and consistent, helping develop blog content that extended the brand's voice and kept them visible and relevant in a crowded market.
